About Elgie Sims
COMMITTEEPERSON ELGIE R. SIMS, JR. serves as Committeeperson of the 6th Ward, which falls within the South Side of Chicago and covers areas such as West Woodlawn, Chatham, Park Manor, West Chesterfield, Auburn Gresham, and Englewood.
Committeeperson Sims also serves as a member of the Illinois Senate as the State Senator of the 17th Legislative District. Sims has been a dedicated advocate for the 6th Ward community for many years, focusing on bringing positive change and inclusive representation to all residents.
With deep roots in the neighborhood, Sims remains active in many 6th Ward civic organizations whose mission is to improve the quality of life for the communities they serve with the goal of championing initiatives to increase voter turnout, support local businesses, and improve public safety and education within the ward.
Sims believes in the power of grassroots movements and works tirelessly to build coalitions across diverse groups to achieve common goals. His leadership is characterized by transparency, accountability, and a deep commitment to equity and justice.
An attorney by trade, Elgie continues to make a positive impact on every community he is a part of, as he was always taught: “To whom much is given, much is required.” As a community leader, he has worked to provide scholarships and books to children in need and worked to make our communities safer.
Born in Chicago, Elgie holds a B.A. in political science from Illinois State University, an M.P.A. from the University of Illinois and a J.D. from Loyola University Chicago School of Law. He and his wife reside in Chicago’s Chatham neighborhood with their two daughters.
COMMITTEEPERSON SIMS is looking forward to continuing to serve the 6th Ward and is always open to hearing from residents about their concerns, ideas, and hopes for the future.
